The selection of students from Ukraine for the YGH SURGE program — Yale Global Health Students United for Regional and Global Education — has been completed. The selection process was carried out in cooperation with Ukrainian medical student organizations.
For the third time, Ukrainian medical students have the opportunity to join YGH SURGE — an interactive online program in global health that brings together students from different fields and countries around current challenges in modern medicine and healthcare.
SURGE creates a space for experience sharing, interdisciplinary dialogue, new connections, and partnerships. Each year, the program focuses on a specific theme, around which participants jointly explore complex issues in Global Health, share perspectives from their countries, and look for new approaches to addressing shared challenges.
The theme of SURGE 2026 is “Building Global Resilience: Biopsychosocial Approaches to Integrative Care.”
This year, participants will discuss mental health, a holistic approach to patient care, integrative care, and other topics that help broaden the understanding of the health of individuals, communities, and healthcare systems.
This year, the following students will continue the path toward participation in SURGE 2026 from Ukraine:- Mariia-Anastasiia Vachko, student at Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University;- Kira Vazhnieva, student at Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University;- Dariia Honcharenko, student at PHEE “Kyiv Medical University”;- Zoriana Moshchenko, student at Bogomolets National Medical University.
During the selection process, the students demonstrated their motivation, interest in global health, and readiness to become part of an international professional dialogue. It is important for us that Ukrainian medical students have the opportunity to join such programs — to represent their experience, hear different perspectives, and shape their vision for future changes in healthcare. We congratulate the students and wish them meaningful discussions, new connections, bold ideas, and an experience that will stay with them far beyond the program.
