On December 7, 2024, the Klats Education team hosted a unique online discussion with a doctor from the 29th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition!
The event brought together medical students, interns, and young doctors interested in the unique aspects of medical work in extraordinary conditions.
The speaker was Ivanna Koturbash — a 2018 graduate of Bogomolets National Medical University, a family doctor, and a participant in the 29th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition. Ivanna works at the Kaniv Primary Healthcare Center, facilitates peer groups for doctors, is part of the Red Cross Society's mobile brigade, mentors medical interns, and serves as an ambassador for the "Your Family Doctor" project.
Key topics discussed during the event:— What it takes to become a doctor at the "Akademik Vernadsky" station;— How medicine operates at the South Pole;— Parallels between polar medicine and the Ukrainian healthcare system;— The role of family doctors and advanced practice nurses.
The event served as an inspiration for young medical professionals, demonstrating that medicine knows no boundaries and offers unique opportunities for both professional and personal growth.
The discussion was moderated by Marina Savchuk and Maksym Dubovyi, members of the Klats Education team. The full recording of the event is available on Klats Education’s YouTube channel.
The Klats Education team is committed to providing more opportunities like this for Ukrainian medical students! Together, we are building a community ready to face challenges anywhere — even at the edge of the world.
