As part of the collaboration between Klats Education and the VNMU Student Government, a practical training session on "Ultrasound Basics" was held on March 2, 2024, led by Matthew McCabe, a final-year student at Case Western School of Medicine (Cleveland, Ohio). The event took place at Vinnitsa National Medical University named after M.I. Pirogov.
The training lasted 3 hours and included a brief but comprehensive theoretical part and extensive practical exercises. This was a unique opportunity for medical professionals to practice Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and work through the eFAST protocol! As they say in POCUS, ultrasound is the stethoscope of the 21st century. Every conscientious doctor today should understand the basics of ultrasound examination.
About 20 VNMU medical students and young doctors attended the event.
During the training, participants learned:
– Basic knowledge to understand the physics, techniques, and interpretation of ultrasound results (both normal and pathological);
– A clear algorithm for the well-known FAST and its extended version, eFAST;
– Features of portable ultrasounds using the example of Butterfly;
– Cool ultrasound hacks.
The Klats Education team is excited to work towards providing even more opportunities for medical students from different cities in Ukraine!
