Klats Education, together with the O.A. Kysil Student Scientific Society, conducted a series of practical POCUS eFAST training sessions led by an American doctor.
The series consisted of five separate training sessions held from February 26 to March 1, 2024, at the O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University. Each session lasted 4 hours and included a brief but comprehensive theoretical part and extensive practical exercises.
More than 80 medical students and young doctors participated in the training sessions. This was a unique opportunity for medical professionals to practice Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and work through the eFAST protocol! As they say in POCUS, ultrasound is the stethoscope of the 21st century. Every conscientious doctor today should understand the basics of ultrasound examination.
The lecturer and instructor was Steve Donnelly, an American Emergency Medicine physician. Steve has extensive practical experience and has conducted dozens of ultrasound training sessions for civilian and military doctors in Ukraine on a volunteer basis since the full-scale invasion began.
During the training, participants learned:– Basic knowledge to understand the physics, techniques, and interpretation of ultrasound results (both normal and pathological);– A clear algorithm for the well-known FAST and its extended version, eFAST;– Features of portable ultrasounds using the example of Butterfly;– Cool ultrasound hacks from an experienced doctor.
Participation in the training required a charitable donation, and together we managed to raise 5000 UAH, which was transferred to the "Come Back Alive" fund. We sincerely thank our defenders for the opportunity to live, work, and improve our practically important medical skills.
The Klats Education team is excited to work towards providing even more opportunities for medical students from Ukraine!
